Rural Health
Service Corps: AmeriCorps Positions Available, Spring 2008
The Rural Health Service Corps is an
AmeriCorps National Service Program administered by the Rural Health
Network of South Central New York. With offices located in the
village of Whitney Point, the Network works to promote and improve
the health of rural residents in Broome, Delaware and Tioga
Counties.
Successful applicants must be between the
ages of 18 and 25 and will demonstrate the following proficiencies
and values:
- An interest in, and commitment to, rural
health and/or rural communities and people
- Evidence of current and/or past volunteer
service activities
- Communication skills, including writing
and verbal communication with clarity and accuracy
- Self direction: Members must be
self-directed and show evidence of their ability to work
independently and efficiently.
Education Requirements:
Attending college, or a college graduate
The Rural Health
Service Corps is recruiting for 2008 AmeriCorps positions.
Positions will remain open until filled. All AmeriCorps members
must begin their term of service no later than June 1, 2008 and
complete their service by December 31, 2008. Apply on

900 Hour Positions: Members provide 900
hours of service and serve full time or part time, but must complete
their term of service by December 31, 2008. Health insurance
provided for Full Time members, Living allowance ($5,880),
Education award ($2,362) and College loan deferment
provided. The following 900 hour positions are available:
- Health Care Access Associate:
Assist uninsured adults in accessing health services, including
prescription medication, vision, dental and transportation
services.
- Health Promotion Associate: Support
and help facilitate wellness education classes for adults, teens
and children. Provide assistance with other health education
and health promotion projects, including local food systems
development.

learning opportunities for young adults committed to improving the
health and lives of those living in our rural communities.

Health Network of South Central New York (RHNSCNY) is to promote and
improve the health of rural communities and strengthen each
community's capacity to respond to health needs by reducing barriers
and improving access and use of health and human services through
advocacy, communication and partnerships. The RHNSCNY serves
Delaware, Tioga and rural Broome County.
