Eligibility
Counselor (Binghamton):
This 907 hour position begins
May 2011 and will assist uninsured patients served by the Hope Dispensary of the Southern
Tier and Lourdes Hospital in determining health insurance,
prescription assistance, and other services they may be eligible
for. The Eligibility Counselor uses a computerized screening
tool to determine patient eligibility.

Rural Health
Associate (Richford): 907
hour position available
serving Northern Tioga Neighbors Network (NTNN) and the
Northern Tioga Center for Family Care.
NTNN is a group of volunteers working together to help
serve the needs of home-bound individuals. They provide
transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping,
prescription pick-up, simple home repairs, friendly visits,
etc. The main responsibilities for these positions include
checking incoming phone for messages and connecting
volunteers with clients. The Rural Health Associates will
also manage data regarding services provided.
Northern Tioga Center for Family Care provides health
services for individuals from birth to death in a small
isolated rural community. The associate will answer the
phone, record messages, file, stock examine rooms and do
other activities to help the staff. The associate will
assist with planning and participating in relevant local
health fairs and community meetings. This position provides
the opportunity to develop working relationships with
clients of NTNN and patients of the health center.

Community Food Security Associate (Hamden)
This 455 hour member will start in
May 2011 and help to
make local, nutritious foods more available to low income
families and seniors in Delaware County, through the organic
Food Bank garden at Delaware Opportunities, and meals programs
including Meals on Wheels and Head Start offered at various
sites around the county. The Community Food Security associate
will assist with various outreach, coordination, and youth
training programs of Farm Catskills related to strengthening the
local food system and access to local food.

Summer Programs Associate
(Cortland): One 303-hour position serving with Central N.Y.
Area Health Education Center in Cortland, N.Y. Assist with
summer health career education programs for school age children.

Health
Information and Communication Associate (Whitney Point):
One 907 hour position with the Rural Health Network.
This 907 hour member will support and improve internal
information systems, with a strong emphasis on website content.
The Associate helps to link those in need of health services,
health insurance, etc. to resources using web based and other
information technology tools.

The Rural Health Service
Corps is an AmeriCorps National Service Program administered by
the Rural Health Network of South Central New York. The purpose of
the Rural Health Service Corps is to provide meaningful service and
learning opportunities for young people committed to improving the
health and lives of those living in South Central New York State.
The mission of the Rural Health Network of
South Central New York (RHNSCNY) is to promote and improve the
health of rural communities and strengthen each community's capacity
to respond to health needs by reducing barriers and improving access
and use of health and human services through advocacy, communication
and partnerships." The RHNSCNY serves Delaware, Tioga and rural
Broome County.
